5.20 The Department of Education

1. Make sure that the fitness of every school in the district is checked by the local administration by consulting the public works department engineer. Also make sure those buildings without fitness certificates are not functioning as schools.

2. Make sure that special attention is given to the toilets in schools that are used as temporary relief camps and all are in proper working condition

3. Make sure that big trees in the school compound are pruned before the reopening.

4. An assembly should be called in every school before June 1st considering the following things

• Water conservation activities and its importance – Awareness to be given with the help of officers from the Water Authority, Irrigation department, and Soil conservation department.

• Awareness of precautions and safety measures to be taken during emergency situations while bathing in rivers, beaches, other water bodies – stagnant and running- during monsoon season with an emphasis on ‘Throw, don’t jump’ policy. Seek help from the Police department and Fire and safety department.

• Monsoon epidemic resistance. Awareness to be given with the help of Homoeopathy, Ayurveda, and Allopathy doctors.
