5.15 The Department of Animal Husbandry

1. A district-level plan should be prepared and executed to prevent the epidemics among birds and animals during monsoon season.

2. Make sure that the preventive medicines for epidemics are available in all animal husbandry centers and hospitals in the district.

3. In flood-prone areas like Kuttanadu, Kole wetlands, and ‘Pokkali’ cultivated areas; animal husbandry relief shelters should be identified in advance in coordination with the local self-government department.

4. Cattle feed, grass, straw, and medicines should be made available if necessary by giving rate contracts in advance following the Ltr. No. 33-2/2015-NDM-I dated 17th April 2015 from Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India.

5. Volunteers and organizations working to provide food and health care for dogs, cows, bulls and monkeys in public spaces can be called at district level.

6. Attacking volunteers and organizations for animal welfare in the public arena. Take steps to prevent these.

7. Ask the Industry and Commerce Department to list any hazardous chemicals in Kerala, how much, and where (Local Self Government). If these chemicals are contaminated with water, soil, or air, they can be published as methods of vaccination and prevention. In such areas, veterinary hospitals should be equipped with vaccines
